More on Districts...

And, as promised, a few more pictures from yesterday's performance. The kids go on to Regionals at Chesterton in 2 weeks. There have been rule changes this year. In previous years, the progression was: District Gold= Regional Competition. If at Regionals, the band won Gold AND placed in the top five=State Competition. It was so heartbreaking for bands to get Gold at Regionals but not be in the top five. That formula didn't necessarily ensure that the top ten bands in the state competed at State. It simply meant the top five from the Northern Region and the top five from the Southern Region would compete at State. This year, they have added the SemiState Competition. All Gold performers from both Regional Competitions will go to SemiState. SemiState will be a placing competition and the top ten will go on to State Finals. It really seems that it will lead to a truer State Finals Competition. Wish them luck!

It's so interesting to see Zac so animated and follow through with all of the steps, maneuvers and poses required for the shows. He's so quiet both vocally and physically. It's just so out of character for him and I'm amazed when I see him do anything that could be considered flamboyant!
My favorite flag girl! Don't tell Jake--this is Kris--his girlfriend all through jr.high. She doesn't play an instrument, but got interested in the guard when she would go with me to to watch Jake at last year's competitions !
Jake is excited to be actually marching on the field this year.
Our glorious guard! And you know who is dead center!
Warming up on the field. Less than a minute until performance time.
