After the Mammoth Hot Springs, all we wanted to see was Old Faithful! Much to our surprise, this amazing sight is located more than 50 MILES into the park. We began our drive, and tried not to stop off at the scenic pulloffs located every 1/2 mile or so...but this park is FULL of animals! We didn't see any in Glacier National Park, but here---we saw a grizzly cub, buffalo, a silver fox, more buffalo and even those long horned sheep we have heard all about! It took more than a couple of hours to get to Old Faithful. The dilemma upon arrival was: do we stay and WAIT if the great geyser has already recently erupted? It was getting late in the day--just before 4:30 p.m. Luckily, we didn't have to make THAT call---the sign on the ranger station said that it would be erupting again within 20 minutes of 5:00 p.m. (before or after). So, we made our way to the seating area around the geyser. After waiting patiently, it did erupt about 5:15 p.m. !! It WAS amazing and well worth the wait. We videotaped and photographed the 10 minute nature show. Awesome.
