What a LONG trip! We left at Wednesday at midnight North Manchester time and didn’t get checked in until after 9 P.m. on Friday night North Manchester time. The kids did really well with such a long car ride and were only obnoxious in spurts. And, by anyone else’s standards, probably wouldn’t have been considered obnoxious at all! They got a little slap happy at times.Thursday was pretty interesting and diversified. In the early a.m. we pulled a Griswold and got lost in downtown Chicago trying to find 1-90 vs. 1-94. After a little bickering and some tense moments and a few added miles, we found our way. We made it to Wisconsin Dells for our little picnic breakfast. We hadn’t counted on it being so chilly (53 degrees) and wound up eating cereal in plastic bowls in the car instead of the picnic table at the gas station.
Thursday lunch was in Minnesota! We found a nice little rest area and had sandwiches. Peanut butter and jam with some chips for filler. Not surprisingly, I managed to get sunburned in that little half hour stop. Everything seemed to take a little longer than planned. We didn’t get to our Bismarck, North Dakota motel until after 6:00 p.m. Thank God we don’t have to stay in motels for our entire vacation. It was a place to sleep, but by no means anywhere near what we are used to!
